Self emerging through the painting process...

This self portrait was painted from self observation in the mirror. I began at a difficult time. My 24 year relationship with the father of my children was coming to an end, and I had been through the long period of Melbournes covid 19 lockdowns isolated at home. At first I could not recognise myself. Over a period of a year, and much self healing, the portrait developed in a way that marked an experience of self recognition and recreation.
